The Whitney Museum of American Art has appointed Nolan Jimbo as Arnhold Associate Curator, bringing a specialist in Asian diasporic art and experimental performance to the museum.

Jimbo will start November 16 after five years at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, where he organized exhibitions and performances ranging from a survey of sculptor Kenzi Shiokava to a show devoted to artist Mike Cloud.

At the Whitney, he will organize exhibitions, publications and public programs while helping develop and interpret the collection. He previously held curatorial positions at MASS MoCA and the Dallas Museum of Art.

“His expertise in Asian diasporic artists will add to new narratives in American art,” Whitney director Scott Rothkopf said in the museum’s announcement Monday.

Jimbo said he hopes to champion emerging and overlooked artistic practices. “Relationships are at the heart of this work,” he said.
